Southern Berks County
Popular Birding Spots
French Creek State Park
French Creek State Park has a rich and interesting history aside from the birding. The park has well-marked trails, a creek, and lakes. All around, it provides a variety of habitats for year-round birding. It’s one of the only places in the county where the Kentucky Warbler is found.

Nolde Forest
600+ acres of man-made forest, Nolde is only slightly smaller than New York’s Central Park. This is a popular place for hiking and dog walking, so parking lots tend to fill early on weekends, and no parking signs are enforced with citations.

Green Hills Preserve
This preserve features great grasslands where harriers hunt and woodland edges where flycatchers and warblers can be found. This is not a heavily birded or used area.

Shillington Park
A fairly typical suburban park, it’s also close to Nolde Forest and Green Hills Preserve. Nearly all the species that have been found here are due to the regular birding visits of a couple that lives just outside the park. There is good year-round birding here.
